Regional Data / Transportation

Connectivity to rapidly growing markets and the major metropolitan areas of the Southeast is a key feature of Effingham County, Georgia’s strategic location. The Savannah area anchors the triangle between key growth markets in Miami, Atlanta and Charleston.

Effingham County is located within minutes of the intersection of two major interstate routes, north/south Interstate 95 and east/west Interstate 16, which sees an average daily traffic count of more than 75,000 vehicles. This highway intersection allows for tri-port service and ease of access to major markets such as Atlanta, Miami and the entire Eastern Seaboard. A full 70% of the U.S. population is within two days or less from Effingham County by ground, water, rail or air.

The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, Georgia’s second-busiest airport, is only minutes from Effingham County and its available industrial sites. Multiple airlines and flight times put Effingham County within a 35-minute flight to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest.

Two major Class I and one short line rail services are directly accessible from Effingham County industrial sites. Both Norfolk Southern and CSX services connect to and provide direct intermodal services to the Georgia Ports.

The Port of Savannah is home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America and is the nation’s second-busiest container exporter in the nation. Work is ongoing to deepen the shipping channel to the Port to allow for the giant ships arriving through the expanded Panama Canal.
